One-day National seminar on “Rural Development in India – Challenges versus Opportunities” was organized in Government College Barwala, Panchkula on January 29, 2024 under the chairmanship of Principal Hemant Verma . Internal Quality Assurance Cell organised this seminar in collaboration with National Service Scheme of college. Dr. Nisha, the convener expressed her views on the importance of rural development in today's times. At the inauguration, the keynote speaker, Professor Jayanti Dutta from PU Chandigarh highlighted various ongoing schemes of the Government of India on rural development. She explained the difference between rural development in ancient times and modern times India. She emphasized upon the scope of research in rural areas. Chief Guest Shri Anand Mohan Sharan, Additional Chief Secretary, Higher Education Department, Haryana expressed his views on the achievements and opportunities of the rural sector in realizing the dream of developed India. After this the book 'Rural Development in India' and Vedantika magazine were unveiled. The chief speaker and chief guest were thanked by Dr. Vinay Yadav Yadav. Four sessions were held in the seminar. The first session was presided over by Mrs. Rita Gupta, District Higher Education Officer and Principal, Shri Mata Mansa Devi Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya, Panchkula. she invited Professor Mohinder Singh, Former Chairman, Department of Public Administration, Kurukshetra University to present his views. He expressed his concerns on challenges and implementation of the schemes by the government for further development in rural areas .He emphasized that if the schemes are implemented properly, many achievements can be achieved in the development of rural areas. Sumit Dhokwal Professor Biochemistry PGIMS Rohtak, Professor Dr. Gaurav Kalotra, Department of Geography, Punjab University and Professor Dr. Jagbir Singh Dahiya, Department of Geography, S.S. Vidyalaya, Delhi University were invited by principal for a panel discussion. Professor Dhokwal talked about various schemes run by the government like Janani Shishu Yojana, Janani Suraksha Yojana and need to create awareness in rural areas about various diseases, health, agricultural ,education to achieve the goal of Developed India 2047. Jagbir Singh Dahiya said that if students coming from rural areas are given proper guidance, many achievements can be achieved in the development of rural areas. In the fourth session, Dr. Anju Manocha, Joint Director, Higher Education Department, invited Dr. Varun Arora, Professor, PGIMS Rohtak,from Community Medicine Department , In the concluding session, Shri Sunil Jaglan emphasized the participation of women in rural areas in valedictory speech.. Mrs. Archana Mishra, Vice Chancellor Dr. BR Ambedkar National University Sonipat participated as the chief in the concluding session. She congratulated Professor Principal Hemant Verma and the entire Barwala College team for this seminar. 220 participants participated in this seminar in which papers were received from across states including two union territories, Delhi Chandigarh and 11 states. In the end, the Principal thanked all the teaching and non-teaching members and members engaged in seminar work for successfully organizing the seminar.
